Anyone else ready for spring? I saw the first daffodil of the season this morning, giving me hope that spring is really on her way! How is the weather where you are?
Our regular readers may remember the series I wrote about predictive maintenance and why it makes important business fiscal sense. This series of articles is about Condition-based maintenance (CBM). Condition-based Maintenance is a predictive maintenance technique. It simply means that maintenance is performed when equipment performance deteriorates or if multiple indicators show that equipment is going to fail.
The purpose of Condition-based maintenance is to maintain the correct equipment at the right time so you can prioritize and optimize your maintenance resources. The goal is to help your maintenance personnel fix the source of the potential problem, when it’s needed, minimizing spare parts cost, system downtime and time spent on maintenance.
What business needs does condition monitoring serve? Although there are several, here’s a few to get us started:
1. The need to predict equipment failures
2. The need for a holistic view of equipment condition
3. The need for greater accuracy in failure prediction
4. The need to optimize equipment performance
I know you won’t be surprised when I tell you that infrared thermal imaging is one of the techniques used to successfully perform condition based maintenance. Next week, we’ll discuss specifics on how infrared thermography can be successfully used for your business. As always, comments and questions are welcome!

Re-Scans and Electrical Inspections
Folks, we're wrapping it up on our series on questions to ask your thermographer to ensure you get the best possible service. I hope you found this series informative; I welcome your feedback and questions!
Electrical System Inspection Questions
In some cases, electrical scans may require an electrician to be present. For example, an electrician may be needed to open live panels for inspection. Because of safety interlocak and arc flash potential, having a qualified electrician to work with your thermographer may be very important. Ask if you will need to supply an electrician or if your commercial thermographer supplies brings one for the scan, if necessary. Many thermographers work with certified electricians and include them in the quote, but not all do.
Re-Scan Questions
If your commercial infrared scan shows that repairs in equipment are necessary or that other issues exist, a follow-up inspection is critical! Ask your certified thermographer how much re-scans cost or are they included in the initial price.
Also keep in mind that regular infrared inspections should be performed periodically with re-scans that fit into your normal maintenance and repair schedule. Knowing the costs of re-scans can help with your budgeting process. IR Infrared Services has a Premier Customer Discount where we offer discounts for customer loyalty and for things like re-scans.

What is an Infrared Report?
We're continuing our series on questions to ask your thermographer to ensure you get the best possible service!
As part of your thermographic imagin scan, you should receive a complete report. You will want to ask when and how you will receive your infrared report. Some companies even ask to look at a sample report prior to hiring their thermographers so they can see and understand exactly what they will get.
There isn't a "standard" infrared scan report format. However, at a minimum infrared and thermal imaging inspections reports should contain the following information:
